Pictures of Coins of the UKby Tony Clayton |
|
This site consists of a comprehensive collection of images of coins from the United Kingdom. Whilst some of the images are of coins in my own collection, many of have been generously donated by wellwishers and numismatic dealers and auctioneers, who are acknowledged on the main image pages.
The images are organised by monarch and denomination, and can be accessed via the Denomination Index and Monarch Index below.
Each of the denomination pages also provides links to my original website, http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk where the history and values of the UK coins illustrated (and others) can be found.
If you access the page "What's New" you can see what recent additions and major changes have been made to the site. The version number and date of the present pages are given after each item in the indices below.
It is intended that additional monarchs will be added to the list as and when images become available (see "What's New").
Some (but not all) individual pictures can be accessed via the Illustration Index v20 13/02/08

I am most grateful to so many kind people for the generous donation of pictures with permission to use them on this site, in particular the two Auction Houses, Spink and Jean Elsen et Ses Fils S.A.. It is invidious to pick out particular individuals, from so many, but I must thank Martin Platt for his images which are of the highest quality, as indeed are his coins themselves.
If you have a good quality scan of a coin that is not on this site (or a better picture of one that is), and you would like to see it published here, do please let me know using my my Advice page.
I only ask that you enquire first before sending me the image, as my main computer does not use a standard Microsoft Windows operating system. Naturally, due acknowledgement of any pictures I use will be given if required.
This series of pages is under continuous development. The site is mainly used as a picture store for my main website on the History and Values of UK Coins: http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk. I would be most obliged for notification of any remaining errors.
I would like to thank The Ten O'Clock Show Limited for their generous sponsorship of my websites, and to S-I-G-M-A for their donation of server space for a year while the new site was set up.
I would be grateful if you could search the site carefully before mailing me - the answers to the great majority of the questions that I am asked can be found on this site, and I am unlikely to reply quickly to such questions. In particular, I do NOT provide a valuation service.
If you have done this and still wish to ask for advice, feel free to mail me via my Advice page but please do not send me unsolicited scans or other binary files.
